<description>I find it strange that people can&#039;t distinguish between Second Life the virtual world and Second Life the platform (3D Internet) and that Linden Lab in opening up the server software, the viewer is already open sourced, turns control over to the users for hosting their own islands, setting their own access and even minting their own currency.

And that Second Life the virtual world is not a replacement of the Internet but that Second Life the platform (any open source mass adopted 3D Internet platform for that matter) is an extending of the current Internet and that added a virtual would &quot;button&quot; via a plugin to your browser would very much make sense in shopping books and CDs in a 3D environment and giving people the experience of walking down the 3D store and talking to other avatars about the products.

And generally speaking the sooner people make this distinguish, and that all this is about the 3D Internet and not Second life the virtual world, the sooner we can exit the empty media hype of today and enter into a more valuable debate of how to integrate V-Business with existing business operations and work out business models to support, one of many potentials, the co-creation possibilities of a user-generated 3D platform and avatars create products in 3D with a companies designers and product developers.
